Ingredients
Scale
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 1 tablespoon relish
- 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce
- 1 lb ground round (80/20 preferred)
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 4 (6-inch) flour tortillas
- 2 slices American cheese, halved
- 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
- 1/4 cup diced white onion
Instructions
- Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, relish, and hot sauce until smooth. Refrigerate until use.
- Portion the Beef: Divide ground round into 4 loose mounds (do not form patties).
- Sear the Beef: Preheat a griddle or skillet over medium-high. Place beef mounds onto the hot surface and season with salt and pepper. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Smash with Tortillas: Place a tortilla over each beef mound and press firmly with a spatula to flatten beef evenly. Cook for 2–3 more minutes until tortilla browns.
- Flip and Finish: Flip the tacos, add a slice of cheese to each, and cook for 1–2 minutes until cheese is melted and tortilla is crispy.
- Top and Fold: Remove from heat, add lettuce, onion, and a drizzle of burger sauce. Fold and serve hot.
Notes
- Use parchment paper while smashing to prevent sticking.
- 80/20 beef provides the best juicy-crispy balance.
- For extra crisp, press down on the taco during final heating.
