- 6 hot cross buns
- 30g butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup cream
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ cup caster sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla essence
- 1 tsp icing sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C fan bake. Grease a baking dish with butter.
- Slice the hot cross buns into 1cm slices. Spread butter on each slice.
- Arrange the slices in the prepared dish, overlapping slightly.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, cinnamon, sugar, and vanilla.
- Pour custard over the buns and let them soak for 10 minutes.
- Bake for 35 minutes until golden brown and set.
- Dust with icing sugar and serve warm with custard, cream, or ice cream.
