Description

Ingredients

1 teaspoon sugar

1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

1 ¼ cups warm water (about 110°F)

2 tablespoons olive oil


Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar.

  2. Activate Yeast: In a separate bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.

  3. Make Dough: Pour the yeast mixture into the dry ingredients, add olive oil, and mix until a dough forms.

  4. Knead: Knead dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. First Rise: Transfer dough to a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled.

  6. Shape: Punch down dough, shape into a loaf, and place on a baking sheet.

  7. Bake: Preheat oven to 450°F. Bake for 25–30 minutes until crust is golden and bread sounds hollow when tapped.

Notes

For an extra crispy crust, place a pan of hot water in the oven during baking.

Bread flour can be used for a chewier texture.
